Welcome to Kanzanso. We are an onsen
ryokan located in a quiet Oigami hot spring village in Gunma
Prefecture.
Oigami area is surrounded by mountains and a river. Fukiware-no-taki
Falls (a natural treasure) is close from our place.
Come enjoy the great nature of Gunma and feel the nostalgia
of the Oigami hot spring village. |
"Kanzanso" was established
in 1963 in a hot spring area called Oigami Onsen, as a small
but cozy onsen ryokan (hot spring inn) with just 15 guest rooms
to accommodate 60 guests. Oigami Onsen, the hot spring of beauty,
is located in Gunma prefecture and known to produce beautiful
skin.
|
Oigami Onsen
Flourishing since the Meiji era as an area of therapeutic baths,
it is an unchanged onsen village lined with 19 ryokans, each
of which is found along the Katashinagawa River. It is a hot
spring area with history and full of natural beauty, distinguishing
itself from large onsen villages that are more likely to be
called tourist spots. |

Fukiware-no-taki Falls |
| approximately 10 minutes away by car
from Fukiware-no-taki Falls (a natural treasure), otherwise
known as the “Niagara Falls of the East”. It is situated
on a hill in Oigami Onsen village. You will witness the
marvelous “ice sculpture” of Fukiware-no-taki Falls from
end January to end February. Enjoy the natural art that
is in view only during this period of the year. |

| Our
Onsen and Cuisine |
| We take pride in our roten buro with
a magnificent view of the mountain ranges that spread
across to Oze. Surrounded by the mountains, the hot water
bath that overlooks the Oigami Stream is just spectacular.
The large public bath with a large window that allows
for fresh sunlight is also available. Both baths are perfect
to enjoy Oigami Onsen’s nature. Our ryokan is praised
for its “Japanese Joshuji Meal” featuring seasonal delicacies
of the region. What is Joshu beef and kuwagata-yaki (grilled
dish) of seasonal vegetables? The grilled dish goes back
to the olden days of the Oigami Onsen region, to a time
when farmers used to grill vegetables and fish on their
“kuwa” (spade). Have your tender Joshu beef grilled to
fit your palate. |

| Autumn
Colored Leaves |
| The best time for enjoying Oigami
Onsen in autumn is from mid to end October. Be overwhelmed
by the beauty of the area surrounded by the splendid waterfall
and the red and yellow colored leaves. |

The history of Kanzanso |
In 1973, it was incorporated as "Oigami
Kanko Hotel" and transformed itself into a five-storey
building that was built on the adjoining site. The expansion
of the hotel proceeded to the end of the same year.
In 2000, the former “Kanzanso” logo was brought back to
life along with the remodeling of the hotel. Today, it
cherishes the spirit, the key to establishment, of “offering
the hospitality and the simplicity of an onsen ryokan
situated in mountains richly endowed with nature“.
Finally, in 2005, the partial remodeling of guest rooms
is now underway, including the renovation of a royal suite
and 6 guest rooms on the top floor, each with a fine view
and roten buro (outdoor bath).
A barrier-free roten buro will also be available for private
use. It is due for completion in June 2006. |
